New Nostalgia
From Chicago, New Nostalgia is instrumental music you actually like—a massive 9-piece band (including a 5-horn section) blending jazz, pop and rock flavors together for a sound you didn't know you needed in your life. "We're a jazz band that thinks we're a rock band" says conservatory-educated bandleader/arranger Neil Carson, who assembles New Nostalgia's intricate music, carefully and lovingly constructed to rock your face off. Their 2019 self-titled debut features "extreme covers" of 1980s pop tunes, a record hailed by Downbeat as "power-polychord instrumental rock at its finest." Their 2021 covid-era EP 'Frankenstein Sessions' features all original material drawing from influences such as Third Eye Blind, Thrice, The Clash, Anita Baker and Tommy Tutone. Featuring some of Chicago’s finest and most versatile musicians, New Nostalgia is a thing to behold, both live and on record.
