About The Artists
Wurk is a 6-piece funk-fusion group which formed in Madison, WI in 2016. Inspired by Umphrey’s McGee, Snarky Puppy, Lettuce, Phish and many others, their innovative original songs and ambitious interpretations of popular covers offer an impressive blend of jazz fusion, prog rock, jam rock and more, all with the consistent underlying grooves of funk. Wurk has opened for acts including The Motet and Andy Frasco & the U.N. and helped pack venues across Wisconsin. Described by Isthmus Magazine as “summer-jam-perfect” and two-time recipient of the Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) Artist of the Year Award (2019, 2022), Wurk fills the gap between complexity and groove, impressing fans and keeping them dancing all night.
Modern Joey is comprised of:
Carl Erikstrup - Guitar, Vocals: Giving guitar, vocal and songwriting input to the band, Carl brings the honky-tonk swagger of vintage Country & Southern Rock to the group.
Logan Furuta - Guitar, Vocals: With origins in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Logan brings his guitar and vocals to the group’s output, as well as songwriting.
Jackson Payne - Drums, Count-offs: From Cedarburg, WI, Jackson brings the Jam Band spice to Modern Joey. A big fan of groups like Phish, The Grateful Dead, Tauk and more, Jackson’s desire for long-form organized noodling has helped establish Modern Joey as the classic jam band it is today.
Christian Porter - Bass, Vocals: From the Twin Cities in Minnesota, Christian rounds out the line-up. Thumping away on the bass and holding down the floor with Jackson, Christian brings a careful musical ear and experienced fret-head to the group.

Located in the heart of downtown Appleton, Gibson Community Music Hall is an artist-centric live music venue that showcases largely original music performers representing a variety of music genres. Our small, close-knit team prides itself of bringing you a special music experience in a beautiful historic building alongside other respectful music fans.
